Google Ventures: Internal Tool

Design Sprint
Duration
1 week
In a one-week sprint, I designed and shipped five features solo for an internal Google Ventures tool used by the deal team to source, research, and track companies: a chat sidebar, scalable people-search filtering, research docs with version history, a people-connections view, and a VC company page.
An AI chat sidebar that can research a company or answer a follow-up question on the spot, right next to the page it's talking about. Collapsed by default, so it's there when needed without competing with the page underneath.

The research tab had grown into a dozen overlapping category rows repeating the same documents. I flattened it into one filterable list, sortable by type and person, so finding a document doesn't mean scanning the whole page first.

Each document also got its own version history, so anyone can see how a doc evolved, restore an earlier draft, or jump into an AI action, like regenerating or summarizing, right from the page.

A connections table on every contact showing who on the GV team already knows them, meeting count, last touch, LinkedIn degree, so outreach never has to start cold when someone's already in the network.
A dedicated page for tracking co-investors themselves, not just the startups: an AI-generated relationship summary, deployment and portfolio-performance metrics, every shared deal, and every GV contact at the firm, all in one place.
A company research page (Gravity Sketch) with the Ask Vortex chat sidebar collapsed, out of the way by default.
The Ask Vortex sidebar open and mid-response to "please include Spline as a competitor," showing its reasoning as it works.
After: the full Filters panel open — name, current company, job title, repeat founder, location, education history, industry, and tags.
Before: the people list with just a compact row of filter pills above it.

The flattened research tab: a row of recently-visited document cards (Meeting Prep, Competitor Analysis, Valuation Module, Deep Market Analysis) above the same items as a plain, filterable list.
A Competitor Analysis document open with its Version Control history expanded, listing every past revision (Competitor Matrix Update, Pricing Section Revised, New Entrants Added, Feature Comparison, Initial Draft) with quick restore/bookmark actions.
Charles Kaplan's profile page, showing a GV Connections table (Han, Elena, Erik, Brendan) with meeting counts, LinkedIn degree, and last-contact dates, plus a shared activity feed below.
Sequoia Capital's activity tab, led by an AI summary of the co-investment relationship, deal history, and where to focus next.
Sequoia Capital's metrics tab: capital deployed by year, blended portfolio performance, top co-investors, and an AI-predicted portfolio value forecast.
Sequoia Capital's people tab, listing GV connections alongside the firm's own founders, board, and C-suite.
Sequoia Capital's portfolio tab, listing its co-investments with stage, ownership, date, status, growth score, and deal visibility.
